General information

The Lector at Mass

Notes regarding the Sign-up Sheet:

You can schedule yourself directly onto this document.  Simply click the “Edit/Bearbeiten” button found in the upper right of the document. Once you have clicked this button you will be able to write directly in the document with your preferred dates and roles. There is no need to “submit” your answers as the document automatically saves as you are typing. It is best to do this from a PC as the mobile version does not work for all devices. If you have any questions, please contact Karen Curjel.

If you prefer to serve as both a Lector and a Eucharistic Minister please sign up in both slots on the date.

Lector Responsibilities

Please arrive in the Sacristy 20-30 minutes before Mass.
Assist with altar servers getting ready if needed (just check on them).
Participate in the processional into Mass. (The lector who carries the Lectionary into the church should always on the right side of the processional.)
The first lector is responsible for the First Reading and the Responsorial Psalm. The second lector is responsible for the Second Reading, Intercessory Prayer and reading the Collection.

Notes/Extras

Please remain standing for the readings and responsorial behind, to the left of the lector reading.
The Lectors should sit on either side of the altar steps when the children’s homily is being delivered. Please check with Karen or Fr. Urs ahead of time.
The Prayers of the Faithful are prayers. When you are finished, please turn toward the priest until he has concluded the prayer. You may then return to your seat, or proceed with announcing the collection.
If there are less than four altar servers you may be asked to help with the collection. Check with the sacristan (Alexander Heglin). The baskets should be placed under the altar before the start of the Eucharist Prayer or during the Holy so as not to disturb the prayers.

Communion Ministers Responsibilities

If you are not a Lector then please come to the altar directly before the Our Father or directly after.
Please remember to serve those in the front pews first.
NOTE: when returning the ciborium (s) and paten (s) to the altar for Father to put the other blessed hosts in after Communion, please place them to his right side.

The Eucharistic Minister who has the ciborium should provide communion to the choir -- wait until a pause in song or nod from the choir director or leader on the piano to minister communion to them. Once everyone has been sserved, you can walk directly to the tabernacle (across floor in front of the altar) and place the ciborium in tabernacle. Remember to genuflect before closing the tabernacle.
All Mass times are at 6:00 p.m. unless otherwise indicated.
Readings can be found by clicking the proper calendar day found on our Homepage or here: www.usccb.org

Once a month the Mass is organized by our Filipino Community Mass. Belly Bucher organizes ministers for these Masses.
