Corona Virus and The Church
The Corona Virus has been spreading all over the world since early this year. For the healthy person, the virus is said to not be dangerous but it spreads rapidly. We at Good Shepherd's are taking the advice of the Diocese of Basel in helping to prevent the spread of this virus. They ask that Holy Water be removed, that the community refrain from shaking hands during the Sign of Peace and that Holy Communion be distributed only on the hands and not on the tongue.
The Worry Well
It is the fear of the unknown that scares most people. We must all try to take measures to protect ourselves and others; it is the respectable and loving thing to do. When we panic, we have a tendency to lose our perspective. When the disciples saw Jesus walking on the water (Matthew 14:22-33) they were terrified and said it was a ghost. But Jesus told them to have courage and not be afraid. Peter called out to the Lord and Jesus said, "Come". Peter got out of the boat and began walking toward Jesus. As the wind picked up, he got scared and took his eyes off Jesus. Peter began to sink.
During this challenging time we all might feel uncertain and helpless. Uncertainty can cause us to become irrational. When we take our eyes off what is important we, like Peter, could sink. It is important for all of us to follow the advice of the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health.
Be smart, stay healthy and wash your hands.
